TINMOUTH BATTLES INTO TOP TWENTY AT THRUXTON!
Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship
Round 2 –Thruxton
16th-18th April 2010
Jenny Tinmouth has taken fourth position in the Cup, and 18th overall in round two of the 2010 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship held in near perfect conditions on the high speed circuit of Thruxton last weekend.
Having never ridden a 600cc machine at the venue before, Jenny would use the free practice sessions to reacquaint herself with the circuit she last rode a 125cc machine on in 2007. Furthermore, she would also be checking the engine after a rebuild since competing in the Wirral 100 at Oulton Park the previous weekend, in which she secured a confidence boosting two second places.
The two qualifying sessions the following day went smoothly, with Jenny concentrating on improving her times. The track surface at Thruxton is extremely abrasive, so several rear tyres were used over the two sessions, to give her the best opportunity of a good lap time and with it a respectable grid position for Sunday’s race. She was able to achieve a time of 1 minute 18.937 seconds, good enough for 26th position on the grid, and an improvement of almost three seconds in just four sessions on her sorrymate.com Honda CBR600RR.
For morning warm up, a slight alteration to the gearing was made, something which Jenny and her Crew Chief Steve Bradley had considered for the previous afternoon’s qualifying, but elected to leave alone. The change proved worthwhile, and she would keep this setting for the upcoming race.
Jenny started the race well, and during the first few laps she found herself right in the pack, initially taking a couple of riders to be in 24th position. As the race settled down, she would find herself in a closely fought group of four riders, sitting comfortably in third in the group. Jenny was faster than the two in front at certain points on the fast flowing Thruxton circuit, but was finding it difficult to sneak past. Everyone was fighting for position, particularly coming into the Club chicane at the end of each lap.

As the race progressed, Jenny knew it would come down to a last lap battle, and knowing that she could attack at the chicane, having been able to get on the power earlier coming through the high speed curve at Church, she would draw alongside her rivals in the slipstream up the hill, making it a three way battle. On the approach to the chicane Jenny would have the inside line and sneaked through, taking both riders in one move. She missed a downshift in executing the manoeuvre, coming on to the finishing straight in too higher gear. Hoping it wouldn’t cost her a place, she saw Jesse Trayler pull alongside but to her credit she took the place by 0.002 seconds to finish in 18th position, her best ever result in the British Supersport Championship!
Jenny Tinmouth:
“I’m really pleased with my performance this weekend. We had a lot of hard work leading up to it with Brad having to rebuild the engine, and we progressed steadily in each session, learning all the time. The race was fantastic, I really got in amongst the pack and had a great battle all the way through, and to take two positions at the chicane on the last lap felt awesome. I would like to say a massive thank you to Brad, my mechanic, he worked hard all weekend as always, despite having a broken ankle, and also huge thanks to everyone who has helped me race this year, without your support we can’t be here, so thanks to everybody involved. I’m really chuffed with this weekend and just can’t wait to get to Oulton Park.”
You can next see Jenny Tinmouth in action in the third round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship which takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend of 1-3 May at her home circuit of Oulton Park.
