 HIGHS & LOWS FOR TINMOUTH

AT OULTON PARK!

Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship

Round 2 – Oulton Park

 2-4 May 2009

Returning to her local circuit of Oulton Park for round two of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship, Jenny Tinmouth, aboard her sorrymate.com entered Honda CBR600RR, had an eventful weekend over the Bank Holiday. Making progress throughout free practice and qualifying, she found herself well placed and battling for a points finish in the race, before crashing out on lap six.

Having cured the misfire problems that troubled her at Brands Hatch, Tinmouth declared the bike as perfect during Saturday’s two free practice sessions, her only concern being a slight lack of pace when compared to her high expectations.

In Sunday’s opening qualifying session, Tinmouth got her head down and produced a lap, some one and a half seconds quicker than that of the previous afternoon, and with still more to come, she would further reduce her time by another half a second during final qualifying later in the day.

Conditions proved unpredictable as the riders took to the grid for the 14 lap race. With light rain in the air, Tinmouth was confident, as she had chosen intermediate tyres, which were perfect for the conditions. The race which had been declared ‘dry’ got under way, but with light rain falling, and the track becoming increasingly greasy, several riders fell, bringing out the safety car, and ultimately the red flag.

Re-forming on the grid for the re-start, which was declared a ‘wet’ race, Tinmouth was again on her intermediates, with a number of her rivals still taking a chance on slick tyres. Making an excellent start Tinmouth pushed through to gain a few places as the field swept through the first couple of corners, and as luck would have it, the light rain started once more, allowing her to use the extra grip, compared to those on dry tyres. She quickly found herself within the top twenty with the riders ahead coming back to her in the variable conditions. Over the coming laps she would pick off several more riders in working her way up to 13th position.

Rapidly closing up on another group of riders ahead, she had her sights set firmly on a podium finish. Once she had almost caught the group, one of the riders had a moment entering Hizzy’s chicane, just sufficient enough to momentarily distract Tinmouth, and without warning the front end of her Honda tucked on the greasy track, braking into Hizzy’s chicane. Rushing to her machine, all was to no avail; the brake lever was broken, forcing her out of the race.

“Everything was playing into my hands; I had loads of confidence on my intermediate tyres, compared to those tiptoeing around on the dry tyres. I was up with Ben (Wilson) so it was really hard watching him move up to third place, knowing I could have been where he was. I had the perfect tyres for the conditions. I’m so gutted as I didn’t do anything different, I noticed someone having a moment, and the next thing I was down, it’s really gutting when you don’t feel like it was your fault! There’s nothing that can be done now and loads of riders crashed and some are worse off and more depressed than me, so we’ll just look forward to Donington for the next round in three weeks time” - Jenny Tinmouth -

The next round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship is scheduled to take place at Donington Park over the weekend of 22-24 May, 2009.

Jenny will be racing this coming weekend 9-10 May, in the Thundersport GB meeting at Pembrey, South Wales, where she hope’s to have another run out on the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade (as well as her own Honda CBR600RR Supersport machine), before taking it to the Isle of Man TT for the start of practice week in just four weeks time!
