TINMOUTH TAKES HER FIRST SUPERSPORT CUP PODIUM!

Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship Round 10

Croft 11-13 September 2009

Riding her sorrymate.com Honda CBR600RR, a delighted Jenny Tinmouth has secured her first ever British Supersport Cup podium over the recent weekend at Croft circuit in North Yorkshire. Tinmouth had ridden consistently well all weekend, and her efforts in the race had rewarded her with a fourth place finish, but due to another rider being taken out of the results following post race technical checks, she was promoted to third place, a result that consolidates her sixth position in the standings.

The Supersport riders were the first to see some track action on Friday, the morning’s free practice took place on a somewhat slippery surface due to no rubber having been laid down. However, Tinmouth got off to a decent start to the weekend, settling in nicely, recording a time good enough for 24th position whilst running on used tyres. With only a handful of laps completed in the second session, Tinmouth crashed at Sunny In, on oil deposited by another competitor. Local rider Dan Linfoot, and Peter Ward also suffered the same fate, which brought about a red flag situation to enable the track to be cleaned. During this time Tinmouth and her dependable mechanic Steve repaired the bike, allowing her to take part in the final few minutes of the session. During this time she managed to regain her composure and set her quickest time of the day, some three quarters of a second faster than in the morning.

During Saturday’s two official qualifying sessions, held in near perfect conditions, Tinmouth completed 36 laps, her best time of 1 minute 25.157 seconds, set in the morning session was her fastest ever lap of Croft, averaging a speed of 89.83mph. She was just under a tenth of a second shy of this during the final qualifying run in the afternoon, mainly due to the increased track temperature, so she would end up in 24th position on the grid for Sunday’s race.

Morning warm-up passed without incident, so Tinmouth would line up for the start of the 18 lap Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship race from the outside of row six, in  24th position. As the lights went out she made a good start and entered the first corner holding 21st place, until Robbie Brown slid through at turn two, she would however continue to hold on to 22nd place at the conclusion of the opening lap. As the race progressed Tinmouth began to experience grip issues from the rear tyre. She had elected to run a soft tyre, but didn’t expect it to lose grip so soon in the race, so consequently her times were a little slower than she anticipated. She would also experience a visor misting problem throughout the race, the much cooler conditions being mainly accountable; Tinmouth opening the visor a little at every opportunity, in a bid to see clearly. She would complete the race in 21st position on the road, and fourth position of the Cup competitors after a rather lonely outing, only being bunched back together under a safety car situation. However, with the results being amended following post race technical checks, she would find herself rewarded with 20th position overall, a third place podium in the Cup and a very handy 16pts as she challenges those ahead of her in the rankings.

Speaking afterwards, Tinmouth said:

“I’m really chuffed with the result at Croft, and to be promoted to third is a real bonus for me! I didn’t have the best of races as my tyre was shot pretty quickly and I couldn’t match my qualifying times, as I normally go faster in the race. It was really hard to push on but it was a good experience learning how to cope with a spinning up tyre. To cross the line in fourth place in the Cup was a good result for me as I clawed back some points in the standings. It was great to be placed third in the amended results, but I hope to achieve that on my own merit next time!

I am really looking forward to Silverstone and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated via the paypal link on my website to get me there – without you I simply wouldn’t be racing in two weeks time!

A lot of people have contributed some of their hard earned cash to get me there and I’m unbelievably grateful for their help and support.”

HELP JENNY RACE TO THE END OF THE SEASON

We would like to offer you the opportunity to help Jenny make it to the end of the season. She has two rounds remaining of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and has the chance to move up higher in the standings. However, racing is a costly business, and funds are running very tight, but with a little help from a lot of people we can keep Jenny on track for the final two rounds.
