Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship

Round 9 – Cadwell Park

29-31 August 2009

Ellesmere Port racer Jenny Tinmouth has been contesting round nine of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship over the Bank Holiday weekend, at Cadwell Park. Riding her sorrymate.com Honda CBR600RR she was consistent all weekend, and finished the race in 24th position and 7th of the cup competitors, a result which promotes her up the order into sixth place in the standings with three rounds remaining.

Tinmouth’s ever dependable mechanic, Steve Bradley, had re-built the engine since the last meeting at Brands Hatch, which will now hopefully see her through to the end of the season. So the first practice was the refreshed machine’s first run since the rebuild. The session passed with no dramas, and Tinmouth recorded the 25th best time at an average speed of 82.80mph around the very demanding and technical 2.18 mile circuit. She produced a similar time in the second session, so was now ready for the following day’s two qualifying sessions, confident that the bike was in good shape and one of the fastest through the speed traps.

The first of two qualifying sessions witnessed Tinmouth record a time good enough for 26th position on the grid of 31 riders, and in the process she had shaved just over a quarter of a second off her time from the previous day. Final qualifying was held in somewhat difficult conditions, with light rain falling for over half of the session. Tinmouth elected to stay out on track to continue to learn her lines and braking points, and to see where she could improve. With about 15 minutes left the rain stopped falling, and Tinmouth returned down pit lane for fresh rubber. In the mad dash for an improvement, unfortunately she made a few mistakes and didn’t improve her time, which resulted in her qualifying in 27th place on the grid.

Making a good start from her grid position, Tinmouth concentrated in getting into a good rhythm, which she was able to do. Towards the end of the race she closed the gap on Max Hunt and managed to pull away from David Jones to finish in 24th position overall, and 7th of the cup competitors, setting a personal best time of one minute 33.681 seconds.

Cadwell Cycle race
On a lighter note, we must congratulate Jenny and fellow competitor and friend Catherine Green on their taking part in the Annual CJ Riders Fund cycle race on Sunday evening. Both ladies were extremely good sports, riding in fabulous ‘Sumo’ outfits, which proved very entertaining for the onlookers. Well done Jenny and Catherine!

Speaking afterwards, Tinmouth said:

“I had a really good time at Cadwell, I love the track, its loads of fun, but really physical and I know it’s not one of my best tracks so I wasn’t going there with high expectations. I wasn’t particularly chuffed with qualifying, as once I messed up one section it tended to carry on around the lap, so I had the potential to set a much quicker lap time but it wasn’t to be. The race went ok and I was chuffed to set my personal best time, dipping into the mid 33’s and I was also pleased that I could push for the lap times right to the end of the race. I am really looking forward to Croft, I love the circuit and I’m hopeful of a much better result there.”
