EVENTFUL WEEKEND FOR TINMOUTH AT BRANDS HATCH!

Manx Glass and Glazing backed Jenny Tinmouth came into the final ‘triple header’ round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship in great form having secured points finishes in her previous four outings. Once again she showed her true pedigree in Britains top 600cc class by taking her Honda CBR600RR to a fine 12th place in race two, but had to retire from the first race earlier in the weekend due to a technical problem. Jenny once again displayed her fighting spirit in the final race of the season, but would unfortunately crash whilst attempting to pass a slower rider.

In similar format to round eight earlier in the year, the 1.2 mile Brands Hatch Indy circuit was used on the Friday for the single 45 minute test for the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport competitors. Jenny used the time sensibly and completed 33 laps with her best time placing her 12th fastest of the 35 competitors.

From Saturday the competitors were let loose on the 2.43 mile Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit which would be a hectic day comprising free practice, qualifying and the ‘postponed’ race from Oulton Park earlier in the year. Jenny completed free practice in 23rd position simply using the time to re-familiarise herself with the Grand Prix circuit.

Qualifying went smoothly for Jenny, however, with just a few minutes remaining she was slightly down on her usual position. Having put fresh rubber in the rear, she would go back out looking to improve, and with a few seconds left on the clock she promoted herself up to the inside of row five on the grid with the 17th quickest time.

The Saturday afternoon race was the ‘carry over’ race with the grid positions being taken from the Oulton Park qualifying session earlier in the year. Jenny started from 21st position and progressed up to 16th place by the completion of lap five. However, she would be shown the black and orange flag on lap six which meant she had to return to pitlane to investigate a technical issue.

Sunday morning warm up was held in difficult conditions with the track being wet and greasy due to overnight and early morning rain. Jenny showed her finesse in such tricky conditions to briefly hold ‘P1’ much to the delight of her crew and the track marshals on the Brabham Straight. She would end up third fastest at the conclusion.

By the time the sprint race was due to start track conditions had improved but there were still plenty of damp patches. Jenny elected to change tyres in pitlane prior to the sighting lap, which proved to be a wise decision. Taking the start from her 17th position on the grid she would get off the line well and circulated in an impressive eleventh position at the end of lap one.  As the race progressed Jenny found herself lapping consistently and brought the Manx Glass and Glazing Honda home in a safe 12th position to take her sixth points scoring ride of the season.

The final Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport race of the year saw Jenny start from 23rd place on the grid. Once the race got underway she had to battle her way through some slower riders to get towards her now expected mid-field position. By the end of lap four she found herself right on the back wheel of Josh Caygill and attempted a move at Druids on lap five which went ‘a bit wrong’ resulting in taking both herself and the Triumph rider out of the race.

Having had a difficult start to the season on the Superbike, Jenny re-grouped impressively during the remainder of the year to take six points scoring results and a total of 19 points with fine rides particularly at Donington Park and Silverstone. She already has her sights set firmly on 2012, and we will bring you more news shortly.

“It’s been a hectic year for sure, and I’m pleased with our progress and results during the latter stages of the season. I couldn’t have done this without the help of Manx Glass and Glazing and all my sponsors. So I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has played their part this year. ” Jenny Tinmouth
